Meeting with WMO's Secretary-General Mr.Jarraud |
|
The board members of IFNet, Chairperson Mr.Tyagi, Vice Chairperson Mr. Nunomura, Vice Chairperson Mr. Laarhoven and Director General Mr. Kikuchi held a meeting with WMO (World Meteorological Organization) 's Secretary-General Mr. Michel Jarraud on March 23 and extensively exchanged ideas. Mr.Jarraud highly praised IFNet's efforts and emphasized WMO's position regarding flood problems, stating that if such an action would expand, it would be helpful in mitigating flood damages around the world. As for IFNet, we would like to pursue our partnership with WMO and enhance our action, expanding membership.

IFNet Meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland
|
|
On March 23, the day after the UN Water Day took place at WMO in Geneva,
Switzerland, the meeting to talk over the future works of IFNet was held
among the Chairperson Mr.Tyagi, Vice Chairperson Mr.Nunomura, Mr.Laarhoven
and Director General Mr.Kikuchi. They affirmed to enhance the sense of
participation for the participants and to provide substantial output. Furthermore,
they agreed to advance the close partnership with WMO and collaborate with
partner organizations around the world including Japan and the Netherlands.

Participation in the 4th World Water Forum
Kick-off Meeting
|
|
The first preparatory meeting was held in Mexico City on March 22 and 23
for the coming 4th World Water Forum, which will also be held in Mexico
in March 2006. IFNet, founded on the flood day during the 3rd World Water
Forum in Kyoto, asserted that the flood topic be included as one of the
themes at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico.

Flood Session held in CSD12 at UN Headquarters |
|
The 12th Commission on Sustainable Development was held under the auspices of the
UN Headquarters from April 14 to April 30 in New York. Un the Chairperson Mr. Mitsunari,
Senior Deputy Director of River Planning Div., MLIT of Japan, Mr. Jezeph of UN-ESCAP, Dr. Nyambe of University of Zambia,
Mr. Ikeda of Public Works Research Institute, and IFNet's Acting Director General Mr. Umeda served as speakers at
the Flood Session held as a partnership fair. IFNet also displayed an exhibition booth while calling out for participants
and explained the schema of the project.
