Issue of Newsletter |

This is the first issue of gWater in Riversh Newsletter toward the establishment of
International Flood Network (IFNet), which will be generally published every month.
The newsletters will provide a medium for sharing information about activities for
establishing IFNet. We expect contributions from our various readers in addition to
messages from gWater in Riversh Secretariat.

1st Preparatory Meeting in the Hague, the Netherlands
|

1st Preparatory Meeting in the Hague, the Netherlands The First Preparatory Meeting for the 3rd World Water Forum (WWF3) Flood Activities was held in the Hague, the Netherlands on 20 and 21 May 2002. We introduced the idea of establishing International Flood Network (IFNet) which could possibly be launched at WWF3 and would continue to serve its purpose for many years. The IFNet proposal was well received by the participants. The principal comments were: - to succeed, the Network will need long term secretariat support, - it will also need continual support from its members by feeding up-to-date information, - it should not duplicate any of the activities of its members and, in particular, if it launches any project or meeting, this must be in partnership with or led by its members, and - its most important task would be the linkage of flood-related activities between WWF3 and WWF4.

website. We are looking forward to your active participation in the session named
"International Flood Network" by submitting your ideas and opinions about floodrelated
activities in your organizations and in your countries.
